Synopsis:
Philip Ridley’s back, the director that shook Sitges up with The Reflecting Skin or The Passion of Darkly Noon. In other words, European fantasy with touches of quality, poetry and reflection, although Heartless is, above all, a truly terrifying horror film. It’s the story of a London photographer (a marvelous Jim Sturgess) who suffers from terrible birthmarks on his skin and whose personal paranoia merges with the sinister environment in the poor areas of a modern and ghostly London. With elements from Clive Barker’s urban horror, Ridley achieves an original, beautiful, suggestive film that doesn’t hesitate when it comes to presenting some of this year’s most terrifying sequences. Philip Ridley
Born in London, he has devoted himself to painting, written novels and directed plays, all with notable success. He debuted in film with The Reflecting Skin (90), multi-award-winner in Locarno, Sitges and Stockholm, and continued winning prizes with The Krays (90) and The Passion of Darkly Noon (95).
