James Franco is as hyperactive as he is multifaceted. On this occasion, film star turned into filmmaker adapts Cormac McCarthy in a western that’s as powerful as it is critical. Out of place in society, Lester Ballard finds himself doomed to a life of crime and is stalked by the local sheriff. A spiral of violence is then unleashed that allows the filmmaker to create an unfiltered portrayal of rural poverty in the United States.
