The film, starring Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smith-McPhee, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall and Guy Pearce, is one of the most eagerly-awaited movies in recent years.

Presented at the Venice and Toronto festivals with a spectacular reception, the film is already considered one of the best productions of the year. With a cast headed by Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron, The Road was photographed by Spaniard Javier Aguirresarobe, one of our country’s most respected directors of photography who made the big leap to Hollywood to shoot this film with a devastating atmosphere full of smoke and chiaroscuros.

John Hillcoat had already elegantly seduced genre cinema with The Proposition, a westernwritten by music genius Nick Cave (who did the score for The Road). Now Hillcoat adapts Cormac McCarthy’s celebrated novel The Road and creates a harsh and moving apocalyptic film. McCarthy, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 2007, is also the author of the novel adapted by the Cohen Brothers, No Country for Old Men. In a world in ruins, where it rains ash and food is a scarce commodity, a father has to protect his son during a complicated road trip. Absolute desolation, cold, hunger and piles of bodies everywhere create the atmosphere in this film that was shot around different parts of the United States, including post-Katrina New Orleans: a landscape as fitting of science fiction as it is of westerns.
