Film director and musician Rob Zombie will be receiving the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival’s Grand Honorary Award on Saturday 21 June. The Festival is making the most of Rob Zombie’s visit to Barcelona for the concert he’ll be offering the next day, to give him the award and put together this event in recognition of his career.
The award-giving event will take place during the screening organized by the Festival at the Aribau Multiplex, Saturday 21 June at 20:00. During the event, the Festival Director, Àngel Sala, will be presenting the Grand Honorary Award to Rob Zombie, who will be attending with his wife, actress SheriMoon Zombie. Immediately afterwards will be the screening of The Devils Rejects, directed by Rob Zombie in 2005. The Devils Rejects is the sequel to House of 1.000 Corpses (2003) and tells the intense and delirious story of murders and vengeance in Texas. The film was screened at Sitges 2005. Rob Zombie’s latest movie, The Lords of Salem, was also screened at the Festival, in 2012. In addition, the aforementioned House of 1,000 Corpses (2003), Halloween (2007) and The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (2009) were also screened here previously.
These titles are just a part of a small but very outstanding filmography of horror genre movies from recent years that enshrine Rob Zombie as one of the most distinguished directors of his generation. Heir to the most stifling cinema from the seventies, with Tobe Hooper or Sam Peckinpah as direct models, Rob Zombie stands apart thanks to his direct, personal style which, at the same time, positions him as one of the exemplary filmmakers for the Festival’s audience.Tickets for the screening of The Devils Rejects the Grand Honorary Award ceremony will be going on sale today Tuesday, 3 June, and will cost 8 Euros. Tickets are on sale at Grup Balañá, with this direct link. The Festival will be raffling off tickets for this screening through its Facebook page.
Rob Zombie and his band will be performing June 22nd at the Sant Jordi Club. He’ll be arriving in Barcelona from Hellfest (France). The following day, Monday 23rd, he’ll be performing in Madrid and will later continue his European tour in Rome.
The Sitges Film Festival’s last Grand Honorary Award was given to Takashi Miike during the closing ceremony last year. Other outstanding figures who have received this award are George A. Romero, Bryan Singer, Jodie Foster, Neil Jordan, Paul Verhoeven, Quentin Tarantino, Viggo Mortensen, Vincent Cassel, Malcolm McDowell and Stanley Kubrick (picked up by his widow, Christiane), among others.
