The Sitges Film Festival presents its 50th anniversary in Los Angeles
The Festival is committed to its internationalization and holds the first of its 50th anniversary events at the film industry’s nerve center
This Wednesday, February 1st, the CAA (Creative Artists Agency), the most important talent agency in the world, hosted a presentation of the Festival’s 50th anniversary. A long list of internationally famous guests were present.
Sitges travelled to Los Angeles to hold the very first of its 2017 events scheduled for different key areas all around the world, on the occasion of the 50th Sitges Film Festival. The Festival’s Director, Àngel Sala, and its Deputy Director, Mike Hostench, led the reception at the CAA, which had two very different parts. In addition to the presentation of the fiftieth anniversary, the film 1974 by Mexican director Victor Dryere was also screened. The young filmmaker visited Sitges 2016 with this movie –his debut feature-, a series of 8mm tapes revealing the tragic fate of a couple that disappeared in the Mexico in the mid-seventies. An unnerving found footage movie that has been square one of Dryere’s promising career.
Among the guests attending the reception were directors, producers, actors and other industry professionals, with a notable representation of Catalan talents who are working in the United States. Elijah Wood, Walter Hill, Robert Englund, Roger Corman, David Pastor, Carles Torrens and Andy Muschietti are just some of the celebrities who accompanied the Festival in Los Angeles. Guillermo del Toro, ambassador of the upcoming 50th anniversary, apologized for his absence due to his work on the postproduction of his latest film.
