Pablo Tébar wins the 2017 Minotauro Award, to be presented to him in Sitges

For the fourth year running, the Minotauro Award will be associated with the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, celebrating its 50 anniversary this year

Nieve en Marte (Snow on Mars), a science fiction novel written by Pablo Tébar, is the winner of the 2017 Award, a prize that will be presented to him as a part of the 50th Sitges Film Festival. The Jury’s meeting and verdict took place on Monday June 19th in Barcelona.

In addition to science fiction, Nieve en Marte combines intrigue, unremitting action and a whole array of characters that will stay with readers once they’ve finished reading the book. The storyline holds several surprising twists and invites us to reflect on the future human beings are creating with their mismanagement of the present.

The novel earned the unanimous vote of the Minotauro Award Jury, this year composed of writers Javier Sierra and Manel Loureiro, the Director of the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, Ángel Sala, movie producer Adrián Guerra and the editor in chief of Ediciones Minotauro publishing house, Marcela Serras.

Pablo Tébar was born in 1976, son of an actress mom and a screenwriter-author dad. He began to work as a screenwriter in 1995 on Médico de Familia and since then he’s worked on TV series like Periodistas, El Comisario or Tierra de Lobos. He was the creator of the series for TVE Herederos, and co-creator of the thriller with a western air Mar de Plástico for Antena 3. He wrote and directed the short film Onán, winner of the award for best screenplay at the Medina del Campo International Festival and Canal Plus’ La noche + Corta, and winner of the award for best short film at the Benicàssim International Festival. Since he was a child, he always dreamed of being a novelist. He now debuts in literature with Nieve en Marte.

The book goes on sale on 4th October 2017 and on Tuesday October 10th, it will be presented in Sitges at a press conference attended by the author and members of the Jury. The official Award presentation will also be on the 10th, before the screening of one of the Festival’s films.

This is the fourteenth year of the International Fantastic and Science Fiction Literature Award by Ediciones Minotauro. Authors like Javier Negrete, León Arsenal, Carlos Sisí, Carlos Molinero, Elio Quiroga or José Antonio Fideu are among its winners and it has established itself as a genre literature benchmark, valued in 6.000 euros.

In addition, for the fourth year running, the Minotauro Award is associated with the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia which, in its 50th year, will be hosting the Award press conference and presentation.
