The world premiere of this police thriller created by Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo will take place as a part of the Sitges Film Festival’s 50th anniversary

Once again this year, Movistar+ will turn the Sitges Film Festival into its best genre film and series showcase, with a lineup that’s soon to be announced.  La Zona (The Zone), a Movistar+ original project, stars Eduard Fernández, Álvaro Cervantes, Alba Galocha, Alexandra Jiménez, Manolo Solo and Emma Suárez, among others.

Three years after the nuclear reactor accident that devastated a region in northern Spain, inspector Hector Uría is back on active duty after being the only survivor of the first group that came to the power plant’s rescue. The appearance of a brutally murdered man in the Exclusion Zone will draw him into an investigation that will cast doubt on the new order established in the world that emerged following the catastrophe.

Conceived by Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo –creators of the widely acclaimed series Crematorio (Crematorium)La zona will be premiering as part of the 50th anniversary of the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of  Catalonia. Eduard Fernández, Álvaro Cervantes, Alba Galocha, Alexandra Jiménez, Manolo Solo, Emma Suárez, Juan Echanove or Carlos Bardem bring the characters that compose the series’ different storylines to life.

“We could say that La Zona poses a dystopic present where the action is contemporary and it takes place in a hyper-realistic environment, verging on our reality” comments Jorge Sánchez-Cabezudo. “We proposed bringing the world of Chernobyl or Fukushima to a local stage. An everyday environment where, following the accident, social rules and roles get turned upside down. Based around this universe that’s generated, we outlined a police thriller”.

The series, shot entirely in exterior locations around Asturias and Madrid, will be debuting on Movistar+ this upcoming October 27th, with a first season made up of eight episodes with a runtime of 50 minutes. The pilot will be premiering in Sitges.
