The summer course on science fiction cinema at the UB is back this year
The Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia in collaboration with the University of Barcelona are organizing the summer course “Science fiction cinema as seen from the Sitges Film Festival”, coordinated by Professor Jordi Ojeda and Festival Director, Àngel Sala.
This is the second edition of this course, which will take place from 13 to 17 July, with completely updated material. There is a discount registration fee until 14 June, and UB students get 50 percent off.
Most of the films that are the biggest box office earners are from the science fiction genre. This leads to other sequels and favors debates that go way beyond entertainment and that allow us to reflect on science and its consequences both individually and socially. This is something that’s well known by all the genre fans who, year after year, confirm this evolution at the Sitges Film Festival.
With the experience chalked up by the Festival and movie theaters, the course analyzes what 21st century science fiction cinema is like from different points of view, in order to understand and experience a cultural activity with 47 years of history that, besides entertaining, also transports us through space and time.
