Movistar+ lands at Sitges 2016 with a special lineup of films and series
The Movistar Xtra channel will be full of marathons, films, series and the spirit of Sitges
Movistar+ transforms the Sitges Film Festival into its best showcase for genre films and series. On the occasion of the Festival, taking place from 7 to 16 October, this platform is landing in Sitges with its Movistar+ Tour and presenting a complete variety of series, films and events, which will be extended to the Movistar Xtra channel that, during the Festival, will be offering a special lineup dedicated to Sitges.
For the second year in a row, the Sitges Film Festival will be housing the Espai Movistar+, increasing the number of days this year and setting up in the Fragata area until Wednesday 12, just below the emblematic Sitges church. The Espai Movistar+ programs screenings that are a part of Serial Sitges –the Festival’s section sponsored by the FNAC and dedicated to TV series, also screening in the Tramuntana Room–, as well as a zombie marathon to top off the Sitges Zombie Walk (Saturday 8, at night) and other genre titles completing the 49th Festival’s schedule.
Among the series that Movistar+ is bringing to Sitges there are various premières, like The Living and the Dead, directed by Alice Troughto and with Colin Morgan and Charlotte Spencer heading the cast, as well as the eagerly awaited Likely Stories by Neil Gaiman of which four different episodes can be seen in Sitges. Another big highlight programmed for the Festival under the Movistar+ brand are four episodes directed by Paco Plaza of the third season of Penny Dreadful, the series starring Eva Green that delves into the unknown and the supernatural hand in hand with the most iconic characters in 19th century gothic literature.
The lineup is completed with series like Section Zéro (directed by Olivier Marchal. Starring Ola Rapace), You, Me and the Apocalypse (directed by Saul Metzstein, Tim Kirkby and Michael Engler), Timeless, the new series of time travel created by the NBC channel, and the second season of Mr. Robot, directed by Sam Esmail and starring Christian Slater, Rami Malek and Portia Doubleday. The Serial Sitges section couldn’t possibly be missing Game of Thrones, of which we’ll be screening the thrilling ninth episode of the sixth season, ‘Battle of the Bastards’, directed by Miguel Sapochnik and for which it just won an Emmy.
The Espai Movistar+ will also host a zombie marathon on the night of Saturday 8, following the multitudinous Zombie Walk, with the films Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, 7 Doors of Death and Extinction. Other films that can be seen here are Message from Space, What we do in the Shadows, Dune, Turbo Kid or Bloodsucking Bastards.
Likewise, this year Movistar Xtra’s slot #CineBasura will include a double proposal: La Peli, co-directed by Paco Fox and Miguel Ángel Viruete (in the Tramuntana Room) and Double Dragon, by James Yukich (at the Espai Movistar+).
The #TourMovistarPlus is coming accompanied by life size series sets so fans can take pictures with the characters from their favorite series: Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black and Penny Dreadful. And continuing with new updates, in the Samsung Sitges Cocoon section, fans can enjoy an incredible virtual reality experience that was the big sensation at the past Comic-Con. It’s an immersive experience in the life of Elliot, the leading character of the series Mr.Robot.
But the Sitges brand goes way beyond the Festival itself, because between 7 and 16 October, Movistar Xtra (number 32 on the dial) will become a Sitges channel, where it will be programming marathons, films, series and other slots dedicated to the Festival and its filmography. Actually, since early September, the channel has broadcast a selection of trailers from some of the films on Sitges’ official lineup.
