The Day He Arrives (Book Chon Bang Hyang)

de Hong Sang-soo

As usual in Hong Sang-soo’s movies, it all begins with a journey and an encounter. Seongjun arrives in Buckhon, Seoul, to see a friend who doesn’t show up. Wandering around the neighborhood, Seongjun runs into an old female friend from his childhood, some film students and, finally, his friend. Day by day, he repeats similar situations: encounters around a table, with many bottles of alcohol and the shadow of a past love lying in wait for the protagonist. After becoming the contemporary filmmaker who best dissects relationships, Hong Sang-soo returns with a comedy in elegant black and white full of subtle, intelligent humor.
