In the middle of the civil war, Shao, leader of a liberation army squad, crosses northeast China, where a bandit rules over the area from his fortress at Tiger Mountain. Shao decides to stay and fight the bandit. Based on a seminal Chinese novel, this adaptation by master Tsui Hark makes good use of the spectacularity of 3D and draws a brilliant picture of the development of modern China.
Born in Vietnam, he worked in Hong Kong as a TV filmmaker. After debuting with The Butterfly Murders (79), he rotated his work as a director and a producer, securing his place as a decisive figure in modern Hong Kong cinema.
