Ever since its birth, film has defied one of the great fears of human beings: the test of time. So, it was possible to capture life on celluloid. In this gem of cinematic archeology, Bill Morrison rescues hundreds of lost movies, made in the early 20th century in a remote American town, feverish because of the gold rush. The found material parades across the screen, like a ghost dance.
Trained as a painter, his films commonly combine stock footage and contemporary music. Among his work is the outstanding Decasia (02). In 2014, the MoMA dedicated a retrospective to him.
