'30 Coins', Alex de la Iglesia's horror series, joins Sitges 2020's line-up
The series' presentation will take place at a special screening included in the Official Selection
Terror, paranormal phenomena and conspiracy in rural Spain are the main ingredients of the eagerly awaited 30 Coins series, directed by Álex de la Iglesia for HBO Europe, which will touch down at the 53rd edition of the Sitges Festival. The film can be enjoyed at a special screening in its Official Section.
The TV series from the critically acclaimed director of The Day of the Beast, The Last Circus or Witching and Bitching, immerses viewers in a world where nothing is what it seems and no one can be trusted. Its main character, Father Vergara, is an exorcist, boxer and ex-convict exiled to a parish in a remote village in Spain. When Vergara is linked to a series of paranormal phenomena occurring in the village, Paco, the naive mayor, and Elena, a restless veterinarian, will try to reveal the secrets of his past and the meaning of the old coin that Vergara keeps hidden. Little by little, this unusual trio of heroes will find themselves immersed in a global conspiracy: the battle for the control of the thirty coins for which the apostle Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus of Nazareth.
30 Coins is co-written by Álex de la Iglesia and Jorge Guerricaechevarría, and includes a high profile cast including Eduard Fernández, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Megan Montaner, Macarena Gómez, Pepón Nieto, Manolo Solo and Carmen Machi. The series is produced by Pokeepsie Films for HBO Europe, with the participation of HBO Latin America.
