Anouk Whissell

Biografia

Born in Montreal, Quebec (Canada), Anouk Whissell is a director, screenwriter, and actress, known for being one of the three creative minds behind the RKSS (Roadkill Superstars) collective, together with her brother Yoann-Karl Whissell and their creative partner François Simard. With an artistic background and strongly influenced by 1980s filmmaking, her projects combine retro aesthetics, black humor, and a great passion for genre, especially science fiction and horror with a touch of pulp.

Anouk Whissell made an international name for herself with Turbo Kid (2015), a low-budget but highly stylized debut feature that blends postapocalyptic elements, gore, and youthful adventure with a clear tribute to B movies and classic video games. In 2022, they directed Wake Up, a socially critical slasher film presented at the Sitges Film Festival, which cemented their distinctive visual style and interest in young protagonists immersed in ultraviolent and absurd worlds.
