After the 1967 trial run of the International Audiovision Film Week, the Sitges Foto-Film organization, presided over by Dr. Pere Serramalera, launched the International Week of Fantastic Cinema. The Festival’s first director was Antonio Ráfales. The most prestigious guest at this first edition was filmmaker and theorist Alexandre Astruc, who presented Le puits et le pendule. Dyanik Zurakowska also came to Sitges to present the gothic-romantic horror film La llamada.
