Following the 1967 trial run of the International Audiovision Film Week, the Sitges Foto-Film organization, presided over by Dr. Pere Serramalera, launched the International Week of Fantasy Movies. The Festival’s first director was Antonio Ráfales. The most prestigious guest at this first edition was filmmaker and theorist Alexandre Astruc, who presented The Pit and the Pendulum. Actor Dyanik Zurakowska also visited Sitges to present the Gothic-Romantic horror film The Sweet Sound of Death.
