The jury president was the same person who had received the Clavel Medal for Best Director the previous year: Dario Argento. The spotlight was placed on Mexican fantastic cinema, with screenings including Ensayo de un crimen and Fando y Lis. The Festival opened with Eaten Alive by Tobe Hooper. The main award went to Burnt Offerings by Dan Curtis. The Hills Have Eyes by Wes Craven won the critics’ award.
