The top award went to the Australian film Next of Kin, adding to the list of award winners from one of the countries most frequently represented at the Festival. The cast included John Jarratt, who, two decades later, would go on to play the killer in Wolf Creek. Among the most distinguished guests was British actress Caroline Munro, a Bond girl and horror icon, who presented The Last Horror Film. The highly unorthodox French director Jean-Pierre Mocky unsettled audiences with his unclassifiable macabre tale Litan. Sitges also offered a retrospective look at Tod Browning, Freddie Francis, and Jacques Tourneur.
