This was Joan Lluís Goas' first year as Festival director. His arrival was marked by the removal of the word “horror” from the Festival's name. With the Academy Award® for Begin the Beguine still warm, José Luis Garci arrived in Sitges to serve as a member of the jury. A great fan of the fantastic genre, this director was one of the first to cover the Festival as a young journalist. On that same jury, presided over by actor Tony Bill, was comic writer Josep Toutain. Dario Argento also returned to the Festival to present Tenebrae, a gory piece that elevated the giallo genre to new heights. And 3D carved out a niche for itself at the Festival with the screening of the delirious Metalstorm and Jaws 3D.
