It was Joan Lluís Goas’ first year as Festival director. His arrival coincided with the removal of the word “terror” from the Festival’s name. With the Oscar® for Begin the Beguine still fresh, José Luis Garci came to Sitges to serve on the jury. A great fan of fantastic cinema, the director had been one of the first to cover the Festival as a young journalist. Also on the jury, presided over by actor Tony Bill, was comic book author Josep Toutain. Dario Argento returned to the Festival to present Tenebre, a bloody work that took giallo to the next level. 3D cinema made its way into Sitges with the screening of the delirious Metalstorm and Jaws 3D.
