The Fisher King was the film chosen to kick off this year's edition. The twenty-fifth anniversary of Star Trek was celebrated with a tribute in the Brigadoon section and the screening of all its episodes. The retrospective on Mexican fantastic films was ingeniously titled Mad Mex and provided an in-depth look at an iconic masked figure: El Santo. John McNaughton, director of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, winner of the award for Best Film the previous year, visited Sitges to present his new feature, The Borrower. And Todd Haynes arrived in Sitges with Poison.
