The Festival inaugurated the Auditori, which from then on would serve as its main venue. A very young Quentin Tarantino visited Sitges and, during the Festival, handwrote parts of his upcoming film, Pulp Fiction, in a notebook. Sam Raimi received the Time Machine Award. Other high-profile guests included Shinya Tsukamoto, Tobe Hooper, Wes Craven, Dolph Lundgren, Ellen Burstyn, Peter Jackson, Diana Peñalver, and Raúl Ruiz. At night, a short film by a promising new director named Álex de la Iglesia was screened. It was called Mirindas asesinas and was shown alongside a work in progress of what would become his debut feature, Acción mutante.
