Inauguration of the Auditorium, which would become the film competition's headquarters from that moment on. A very young Quentin Tarantino visited Sitges and, during the Festival, handwrote parts of his upcoming film, Pulp Fiction, in a notebook. Sam Raimi received the Time Machine Award. Other big-name guests included Shinya Tsukamoto, Tobe Hooper, Wes Craven, Dolph Lundgren, Ellen Burstyn, Peter Jackson, Diana Peñalver, and Raúl Ruiz. In the evening, a short film by a promising new director named Álex de la Iglesia was screened. It was called Mirindas asesinas and was shown together with a work in progress of what would go on to become his debut feature film, Mutant Action.
