The Festival honored one of its prodigal sons: Quentin Tarantino received the Time Machine Award. The filmmaker presented Curdled, in his role as executive producer. The Festival also began awarding the Méliès d’Or for Best European Fantastic Film of the Year. In a particularly strong Seven Chances selection, highlights included A Comédia de Deus, J.L.G./J.L.G., Self-Portrait in December, Kids Return, and Maborosi. The latter was presented by its director, Hirokazu Kore-eda.
