The event was renamed the Catalonia International Film Festival. The Time Machine Award was presented to Douglas Trumbull. Wong Kar-wai, Marco Bellocchio, Chris Penn, Guillermo del Toro, Stephen Fry, Paul Schrader, Jiri Barta, and Paco Rabal all attended the Festival. Also present was a young actor living in the nearby town of Vilanova i la Geltrú: Sergi López. For the retrospectives, three exceptional names were featured: José Mojica Marins, Guy Maddin, and Charles Band. In the Anima’t section, two standout titles were Perfect Blue by Satoshi Kon and I Married a Strange Person by Bill Plympton.
