Final year of Àlex Gorina as Festival director. The Festival opened with Small Soldiers, presented by its director, Joe Dante. The closing film was Apt Pupil, accompanied by its young star, Brad Renfro. Asia Argento visited as the lead in New Rose Hotel, the bold adaptation of a William Gibson story conceived by Abel Ferrara. Roger Corman received a well-deserved tribute, and a full retrospective was dedicated to the French master Alain Resnais. Tributes were also paid to B-movie veteran Bert I. Gordon and Italian filmmaker Riccardo Freda.
