33rd edition

The Festival opened with American Psycho, an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' controversial bestseller, directed by Mary Harron. Jack Cardiff, one of the most important cinematographers in history, was one of the standouts on the official jury. As well as Heather Donahue, who we had seen suffering the year before in The Blair Witch Project. Tony Curtis visited Sitges to receive the honorary La General award, newly created for this edition. Terry Gilliam received the Time Machine Award. And the Anima't section dedicated a retrospective and an exhibition to Russian director Ladislaw Starewicz, the pioneering master of stop motion animation.
