David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen closed the Festival with A History of Violence. Jodie Foster received the Grand Honorary Award. Other honorees included Álex de la Iglesia, Bill Plympton, Johnnie To, and Greg Nicotero. A new addition was the competitive section Midnight X-Treme, showcasing the boldest and most mischievous genre films. Its award is granted by the Carnet Jove jury, also introduced in 2005. The year’s most epic screening was Hostel at the Auditori, in the early hours of a rainy night. This leading example of torture porn was shown in an unfinished version, supported by its director Eli Roth, producer Quentin Tarantino, and actress Barbara Nedeljakova.
