38th edition

David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen brought the Festival to a close with A History of Violence. Jodie Foster received its Grand Honorary Award. Álex de la Iglesia, Bill Plympton, Johnnie To, and Greg Nicotero, among others, also took home awards. A new addition to the Festival this edition was the in-competition section Midnight X-Treme, featuring the most irreverent and uninhibited genre films. Its award is presented by the Carnet Jove jury, also created in 2005. The most epic screening this year was Hostel at the Auditori, very late on a rainy night. The ultimate example of torture porn was screened in a preliminary version, with the in-person support of its director Eli Roth, producer Quentin Tarantino, and actress Barbara Nedeljakova.
