Demián Rugna, one of the Festival’s most beloved filmmakers, cemented his place with When Evil Lurks, a terrifying rural expedition that became the first Argentine film to take home Sitges’ top honors. Meanwhile, Victoria Warmerdam won the SOFC Award for Best Short Film with I’m Not a Robot, a triumph that would catapult her to winning the Oscar® for Best Live Action Short Film a year and a half later. Among the recipients of honorary awards were Hideo Nakata, Mary Lambert, J.A. Bayona, and Lee Unkrich, who, to top it all off, mesmerized the entire Auditori with a riveting presentation on his findings about Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.
