Victoria Warmerdam's recent triumph at this year's Academy Awards thanks to I'm Not a Robot has served, firstly, to celebrate another conquest of fantastic cinema at the highest level... and also to highlight that our institutional partnerships exist precisely for this: to open doors; to ensure that SITGES is a key step on a journey that goes far beyond.

Today we announce that our Festival has built another bridge to ensure that the pieces we select continue to have greater reach (and visibility, and prestige) following their premiere in one of our official sections.

We are now officially part of the list of Qualifying Festivals for the BIFA Awards — that is, the British Independent Film Awards, the great celebration of the British indie film spirit.

From this day forward, SITGES is included in the rules of these awards as a Qualifying Festival for British Feature Films and Short Films.

This means that all the films we have selected, and which obviously comply with the BIFA criteria, will directly enter the race to win one of the most prestigious trophies of the awards season.

While we await all the nominations and awards still to come, we can already celebrate another first step / leap forward to ensure the best fantastic cinema shines as it truly deserves.
