From Woody to Miguel: Exploring the Animated World of Lee Unkrich

Sitges Encounters includes talks with great figures of genre cinema, all participants in this edition.

Born in 1967 in a small county in Ohio (USA), the journey of director Lee Unkrich is a clear example of constant personal improvement, a slogan that he applies to his own animated characters.

From young actor to television editor after graduating in Cinematographic Arts, his opportunity showed up whe he signed for Pixar in 1994. In the company he took part in a wide variety of creative rols in many films from the studio, for instance Toy Story, Finding Nemo, A Bug’s Life or Monsters, Inc. From editor to co-director, Unkrich climbed positions until he developed his project as a director, Toy Story 3. This marked his first solo Oscar for Best Animated Film, just before the coming of the acclaimed Coco (2017), a feature film he directed and won two Oscar.

His career inside the company and chiefly his work on animation has been recognized not only with the awards recieved, but with the impressions of an audience that considers these films part of their childhood.
