Round Table - MaestrAs: Barbara Crampton & Nancy Loomis

Sitges MaestrAs celebrates the talent, vision and influence of women who have shaped the course of genre cinema. Directors, screenwriters, editors, world-builders, masters of horror, suspense or fantasy: their careers have expanded the boundaries of the fantastic and opened new doors for future generations.

Barbara Crampton and Nancy Loomis embody two different yet complementary ways of understanding the genre: Crampton, with her magnetism and ability to reinvent herself, and Loomis, with the naturalness and warmth of her performances in some of the most influential classics of the fantastic.

Barbara Crampton became an essential face of 1980s horror thanks to her participation in cult titles such as Re-Animator and From Beyond, directed by Stuart Gordon. Her commitment to the genre has lasted for decades, exploring new dimensions in films like You’re Next and Jakob’s Wife, which she also co-produced, consolidating her as one of the great female voices of contemporary horror.

Nancy Loomis, meanwhile, brought strength and freshness to characters that have become part of the collective memory of horror cinema. Her Annie Brackett in Halloween (1978) made her a slasher icon, while her roles in Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) and The Fog (1980) reaffirmed her place in the history of the fantastic alongside John Carpenter.
