Ferran Freixa designed the logo of King Kong looming over the La Punta parish church, which would become the Festival's most iconic image. Bigas Luna and playwright/director Jaime de Armiñán were members of the jury. Of all the special guests, the one who aroused the most excitement was Ray Harryhausen, who brought with him a sample of the handcrafted creatures he brought to life through stop-motion animation; creatures that continue to awaken a sense of wonder in viewers' eyes even today. Jean Cocteau's poetic imagination was recalled with an exhibition and the screening of Testament of Orpheus. The rediscovery of Andrei Tarkovsky's masterpiece Stalker was greatly applauded. And the very first film directed by a woman to be presented at the Festival was screened this year: The Silent One, by New Zealander Yvonne Mackay.
