The guest of honor this year was Roy Ashton, illustrious makeup artist for Hammer Films. A tribute was paid to the great French filmmaker Georges Franju, who was unable to attend and would pass away two years later. On the jury, Amicus co-founder Milton Subotsky shared deliberations along with film critic José Luis Guarner and rock legend Eric Burdon, lead singer of The Animals. The book Terrores íntimos (Intimate Terrors) was published, in which some thirty-odd authors reveal their favorite horror movie or scene. Among the contributors were Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, Joan Brossa, Domènec Font, Guillermo Cabrera Infante, and Maruja Torres. With the aim of promoting Catalan filmmaking, the Producers' Association organized an international film market at the Calípolis Hotel. That year's outstanding crop of films Legend, Fright Night, Lifeforce, and a Wes Craven double bill: Swamp Thing and A Nightmare on Elm Street to the Festival.
