From Thursday, December 4th to Saturday, December 6th, the ninth edition of Sitges Week in Buenos Aires will be held in the Leopoldo Lugones Cinema at the San Martín Theater (Av. Corrientes 1530). The line-up consists of three feature films from different countries that participated in the recent 58th edition of the Sitges Film Festival, and a talk on the present and future of genre filmmaking in Argentina.

The series is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires in conjunction with the Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, with the support of the Argentine Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences.

Admission is free. Tickets can be obtained at the box office of the Teatro San Martín (Av. Corrientes 1530) two hours before the start of each screening.

The complete schedule for the series is as follows:

Thursday the 4th at 9 p.m.: El susurro (Argentina/Uruguay, 2025). 101’.

Directed by: Gustavo Hernández Ibáñez.

Starring Ana Clara Guanco, Marcelo Michinaux, Luciano Cáceres.

Fleeing from their violent father, Lucía and Adrián take refuge in a remote mansion. With the help of a micro-camera hidden in a cat, Lucía discovers a terrifying secret: their neighbors are part of a criminal network that kidnaps teenagers to make snuff films, and they are intent on getting rid of the two siblings. As Lucía struggles to protect her brother, she will have to confront a dark family curse that has followed them to their new refuge.

"With a touch of folk horror (or, adapted to our territory, rural horror) reminiscent of When Evil Lurks, Gustavo Hernández Ibáñez's film is underpinned not so much by its capacity for surprise and innovation as by its visual and audio array (...), the fine performances of Guanco and Michinaux, and the director's skill when it comes to handling (and mastering) the different registers of the story with discernment, careful pacing, and the creation of atmospheres that are as disturbing as they are appealing." (Diego Batlle, Otros Cines).

The film will be presented by its director, Gustavo Hernández, and producers Roxana Ramos, Fernando Díaz, and Ignacio G. Cucucovich.

Friday the 5th at 9 p.m.: Singular (Spain/Finland, 2025). 93’.

Directed by: Alberto Gastesi.

Starring Patricia López Arnaiz, Javier Rey y Miguel Iriarte.

Twelve years after the death of their son, Diana and Martín decide to get together for a weekend at their old lake house. She is an expert in Artificial Intelligence, while he abandoned his professional career to live a life far from civilization. When an enigmatic young man with a mysterious resemblance to their late son appears at the house, old secrets and new suspicions come to light. The existence of any future could now depend on the family's past.

“Artificial intelligence has arrived in our lives sooner than we thought, as often happens with things we associate with the future and that make us rethink our place in a world where our cognitive abilities are surpassed. Science fiction underlies this thriller, but not in its image, rather in its vision. Are we replaceable? This question has become unavoidable today and lies at the heart of our film. The Turing test used by Deckard in Blade Runner as the litmus test to discern between humans and replicants has also been broken; now it is insufficient, and we need a great conceptual mirror test that we will have to invent, which Singular sets out to describe through a cinema of actors, faces, emerging traumas, and reflections of the human spirit, the defense of which is the driving force behind this project." (Alberto Gastesi).

Saturday the 6th at 6 p.m.: Talk and debate: The Present and Future of Genre Filmmaking in Argentina

With Mònica Garcia Massagué, Gabriel Schipani, and leading figures from the audiovisual industry.

Moderated by Hernán Findling.

Admission is free, and entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis until the theater reaches capacity.

Saturday the 6th at 9 p.m.: No dejes a los niños solos (Mexico, 2025). 98 min.

Directed by Emilio Portes.

Starring Ana Serradilla, Ricardo Galina, Juan Pablo Velasco.

Due to a work emergency, Catalina Camacho, a young widow, is forced to leave her children alone for a few hours. That evening, with the house to themselves, Matías and Emiliano (aged 10 and 7, respectively), will seize the opportunity to dig out their cherished video game console, unaware that something will lead them to believe, independently of each other, that the one brother wants to kill the other so he can become their mother's only and favorite child.

With a relatively simple premise, Emilio Portes crafts a vibrant film that swiftly transitions from playful freedom to the most dangerous mind games. After his Belzebuth (2017), No dejes a los niños solos is the second foray into the horror genre by this Mexican filmmaker, known primarily for his comedies. (...) With clear echoes of Chris Columbus' Home Alone and M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense, No dejes a los niños solos is a thrilling exercise in psychological horror that blends the tradition of haunted houses with the weight of unresolved trauma." (Cristina Álvarez López).
