Akiko travels from Tokyo to Vladivostok to find a businessman she’d been captivated by after one dinner. When she finally tracks him down, he warns her of the dangers of Russia, right before disappearing again. Master Kiyoshi Kurosawa picked up the award for best director in Rome thanks to this action film that eulogizes the talents of actress-singer Atsuko Maeda.
He started off shooting in Super-8 at Rikkyo University. Among others, he’s directed fantastic genre masterpieces like Cure (97) or Pulse (01), a marvel of suspense like Charisma (99) and the family drama Tokyo Sonata (08). He received the Time Machine Award here in 2006.
