Peping, a police academy student and newlywed awaiting his first child, agrees to accompany a group of corrupt cops on a dirty job. Brillante Mendoza follows his young leading man throughout a night when he will completely lose all innocence. The men kidnap a prostitute and take her to an abandoned house, prepared to make her pay for her sins. With an abrasive soundtrack and an absolutely dark, claustrophobic mise-en=scène, Kinatay adapts itself to genre guidelines –the basement, the night, the violence, the horror— and impregnates them with distressing realism.
