Having your coming-out backed by a trio of aces like Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov and Jim Lemley is only in reach of a few geniuses and Shane Acker is undoubtedly one of them. 9, his sensational animated short film, showed a post-apocalyptic world where dolls like the ones grandma used to make from sewn cloth, with zippers and lenses for eyes, took on terrifying mechanical brutes. Nominated for an Academy Award and presented at Sitges’05, 9 now becomes a feature film, broadening its steampunk universe, stimulating the imagination and adding deluxe voices to its fascinating numbered creatures. Like we said, a genius.
