La Doppia Ora (The Double Hour)

de Giuseppe Capotondi

Sonia, an immigrant from the East whose face reflects a difficult past, works as a hotel maid in Turin. She hooks up with Guido, an ex-cop turned security guard, through a speed-dating agency. Soon after their romance begins, Guido is killed before Sonia’s eyes. The Copa Volpi award winner for best actress at the most recent Biennale, La Doppia Ora envelopes the spectator in a mesmerizing mist of faces and glances, stylized shots and a suggestive soundtrack that moves back and forth between dream and reality and unfolds as a complex thriller with supernatural and extremely romantic overtones.
