Metropolis (Restored Original Cut)

de Fritz Lang

Synopsis

The discovery of an original copy of Metropolis in the archives of the Museo del Cine (Film Museum) in Argentina, and two years of miraculous restoration, places one of the biggest gems in silent film before spectators' eyes once more and almost exactly as Fritz Lang brought it into the world in 1927. An event with a capital "E" offering more than twenty-five minutes of infamously cut material, including entire sequences never seen in the last 83 years, despite having to do without a few tragically unrecoverable  minutes. The great masterpiece of science fiction, whose iconic Maria has been a part of our Festival for decades, captivates us once again with its renewed charm.

Director

Fritz Lang

Vienna, 1890-Beverly Hills, 1976. He began as a screenwriter and directed his first film in 1919. After shooting milestones of the "7th Art" like Doctor Mabuse: The Gambler (22), Metropolis (27) and M (31), he immigrated to the United States and built a reputation for himself in film noir. The Shadow vs the Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse (60), directed after his return to Germany, was his last movie.
