de Ian Palmer

When Ian Palmer was invited to film a bare-knuckle fight between two members of the rival Quinn McDonagh and Joyce families with his small camera, he could hardly imagine that he would be spending the next twelve years engrossed in the enmity between these two clans, whose hatred was kept alive through recordings where they challenged each other to fights that always ended with broken noses and bloody faces.  A documentary that deals with family, honor and the absurdity of an almost animal-like violence that is a salutary lesson for the glamour of the loser that so many movies about boxing brandish.

Ian Palmer

He’s worked in the audiovisual world both in Ireland and the United States, but his obsession has been to depict the Irish Travellers, the people starring in several of his short films and his first documentary feature, Knuckle.
