Mystery

de Lou Ye

Synopsis

One evening during a torrential downpour, some kids run over and kill a woman. Who was she? What was she doing there? The police investigation intertwines with the couple crisis between Lu Jie and her husband, who she saw enter a hotel accompanied by the deceased young woman. With Mystery, the prestigious Lou Ye returns home following a five year censor prohibition (imposed by the Chinese government as a result of the highly sexual and politically committed Summer Palace), offering us an intriguing melodrama based on snippets of everyday stories and that questions us about the mysteries that might be hidden away in those closest to us.
