Synopsis
South Korea, 1990. The new prime minister declares war on organized crime, arresting numerous criminals. Among them is Ik-hyun Choi (a colossal Choi Min-sik). Rewind eight years in time, to get to know the first steps of Ik-hyun, a born survivor with a small engagement book full of influential names and a fruitful alliance with the charismatic Hyung-bae Choi (Ha Jung-woo, who we saw in The Yellow Sea). Through the portrayal of these two characters, their conflicts and tensions, Bumchoiwaui junjaeng is a stark radiography of the country in the decade of the eighties, in the best tradition of the Korean thriller.

Busan, 1979. With a degree in film from the University of Chung-Ang, he is considered one of Korea’s most promising filmmakers. He directed The Unforgiven (05), Beastie Boys (08) and Nameless Gangster (12).
