Shahid Khan and Sultana Daku are two rival train robbers. When Shahid becomes a renegade, he is forced to work in a mine that belongs to Ramadhir Singh. Years later, his son Sardar will want to restore his father’s honor, taking revenge against the Daku clan and making him one of the most feared men in India. During its runtime of over five hours, the tale of hatred between families in Gangs of Wasseypur moves through generations, until reaching our time and without leaving a single loose end in its sociocultural analysis of the tensions between different regions in India.
His visual and narrative daring was demonstrated in his films screened in Sitges: the two parts of Gangs of Wasseypur (12) and Ugly (13). In 2013, he was given an award by the French government.
