Compliance

de Craig Zobel

Synopsis

They say that work gives us self-respect. But, as we all know, it can sometimes humiliate us. Sandra, the manager at a fast food joint, receives a phone call from a policeman accusing one of their female employees of having robbed a customer. The woman doesn’t dare doubt the officer’s word, so she keeps the young woman in custody in her office. The issue might not have been more than an anecdote, but the situation gets more and more out of control until reaching an unbearable psychological violence. One of the big sensations at the latest Sundance festival, Compliance plays with the present job insecurity until turning it into pure, unsettling and, above all, real terror.
