In the middle of the Second World War, a Soviet patrol arrives at a building full of strange creatures. Electrified men, heads with dolls’ bodies and tin robots; all this and more is the work of a sort of doctor Frankenstein filtered through the Nazi horror. Using retro aesthetics and a fidgety camera, Richard Raaphorst films a brilliant cross between war film and mad doctor movie.
Born in 1971, he graduated from Kooning Academy in Rotterdam with the short Zombi 1 (95). His feature length project Worse Case Scenario, where the Germans send an army of zombies to win the World Cup, was all the rage on Internet.
