The Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is deeply committed to minimizing the ecological footprint of the festival, located in such a privileged natural environment as the Garraf coast. For this, it continues to improve and implement actions that promote a green and sustainable environment. These actions include, at a practical and logistical level, the responsible management of waste, the reduction of the use of plastics, the promotion of public transport and the use of renewable energy in our facilities, among others.
Throughout the year, the festival participates in various actions such as the Clean Up Day, organized together with the Pure Clean Earth platform and where everyone who wants to be invited to clean up the beach and the mouth of the Ribes creek, one of the most lively spaces in Sitges.
Since its inception, Sitges Industry has also been committed to sustainability, and through education and awareness, a series of activities dedicated to exploring the intersection between sustainability and cinema have been incorporated into its programming. In them, topics such as sustainable film production, the environmental impact of the film industry and opportunities to tell stories that promote ecological awareness have been addressed. Through lectures, workshops and presenting case studies, the aim is to inspire filmmakers and spectators to consider the environmental impact of their actions and actively contribute to the preservation of the environment.

One of the clear examples was the promotion of the transversal sustainability program 'It's Bloody Green', which hosted workshops taught by prominent personalities such as Eneko Muruzabal, workshops taught by pitch experts Valeria Richter and Helene Granqvist from Nordic Factory, or the conferences organized jointly with the Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises (ICEC), and more specifically with the Catalonia Film Commission and the Business Development Service, in which there was a debate on the new professional profiles around filming and sustainability and where a practical case of Green Film certification applied to Esto no es Suecia by Funicular Films, the first series certified with this seal, was also studied. This activity is part of Plan_C* Culture for the Climate, an environmental sustainability plan of the ICEC with the objective of transforming the cultural sector towards a more sustainable model and inspiring a change in citizenship.

Evento Sostenilidad

After the first 3 years of talks and conferences in collaboration with the Catalonia Film Commission and the Business Development Service, the Guide for the incorporation of sustainability criteria in filming and filming was created.

In 2022, Sitges Industry hosted the third edition of the prestigious Green Film Lab. The objective of Green Film Lab is to raise awareness about sustainability in the film industry starting from zero. Green Film Lab promotes environmentally sustainable practices in film production and offers film professionals a new perspective on how to apply an ecological protocol and obtain certification. The program is aimed at film professionals with or without a project, professionals who work in sustainability and delegates from film institutions. Throughout the year, Green Film Lab offers a series of 3-day residential workshops held in different European regions, aimed at professionals in the film industry with or without a project, as well as professionals working in the world of sustainability.
