Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, that picked up the Golden Palm award at Cannes at SITGES 2010
The Official Section of the SITGES 2010 - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (7th-17th October) will be presenting the Spanish premiere of the undisputed winner at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, by Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
For the SITGES Selection Committee, the Thai director’s film reveals to us not only a new conception of fantastic cinema, something that was stressed by President of Cannes’ jury, Tim Burton, but also a dimension of film art as a multimedia expression to decipher a complex reality, where legends and realities, drama and parody, life and death, history and mythology all coexist. A fascinating interaction of mirrors and contrasted realities that Weerasethakul recreates through an original and revolutionary artistic conception.
SITGES already revealed this Thai director to Spain when it programmed his film Tropical Malady in 2004 in the Seven Chances Section.
The Catalan company Eddie Saeta, headed by producer Luis Miñarro participated in the production of Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, which will be distributed by Karma Films in Spain.
