Kike Maíllo's thriller 'A Perfect Enemy' will compete in Sitges' Official Selection
The film adapts Amélie Nothomb's international bestselling novel “The Enemy’s Cosmetique”
A Perfect Enemy, Catalan director Kike Maíllo's latest work, will be one of the films presented at Sitges 2020, in an edition where Catalan and Spanish cinema will have a prominent role. The film is a Spanish, French and German co-production and features an international cast that includes Tomasz Kot (Cold War), Athena Strata (The Good Liar), Marta Nieto (Mother) and Dominique Pinon (Delicatessen)
The film, which will be screened in the Official In-Competition Selection, is an adaptation of Belgian author Amélie Nothomb's novel Cosmétique de l’ennemi, which has been translated into 24 different languages and has sold over 700,000 copies worldwide. This is the third feature film by Kike Maíllo, who opened Sitges 2011 with Eva and won the Goya Award for Best New Director. A Perfect Enemy is his first international production, for which he once again relied on a technical crew made up mostly of professionals trained at the ESCAC (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya- Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia).
The film revolves around the story of Jeremiasz Angust, a successful architect who misses his flight because he is suddenly approached by a mysterious young woman. The two characters strike up a conversation that will grow stranger and stranger until it turns into something sinister and criminal.
