Sitges premiered a new and interesting project for movie lovers: Cine Club Sitges, presented last Thursday, where its first screening received an excellent turnout. Cine Club Sitges was born with the intention of offering the town a periodic program of original version independent films.
Cesare deve morire, by brothers Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, was the film chosen to welcome this new entity. The Prado Cinema was practically packed full of movie lovers who showed their satisfaction with this initiative. During the opening, two representatives from the entity, David Cuesta and Ferran Martínez Sancho, announced the association’s intentions and the Councilor of Culture, Mireia Rossell, expressed the Town Council’s support. The Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, the Casino Prado and other diverse companies also collaborate with the Cine Club Sitges.
The next screening will be on Thursday, February 28th, once the multitudinous Sitges Carnival is over, featuring François Ozon’s Dans la maison, winner of the Golden Shell Award at the Sant Sebastian Film Festival. Cine Club Sitges will initially be programming one monthly film, although their intention is to expand the bill as soon as possible. In addition, the entity is working on diverse proposals to take original version independent cinema to new spaces around Sitges.
