Big international stars and local talent come together at Sitges 2015

Today the Festival is screening ‘Cemetery of Splendour’, a fascinating, oneiric film from Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul

Today Sitges’ screens are bringing together many of the big names on the international scene: Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard or Kevin Bacon share the limelight with new talents in catalan and spanish film who appeared on the Festival’s red carpet. Day 6 of this 48th Film Festival was completed with the presentation of the Sitges Bacardí Indomitable Spirit Award to Adriana Ugarte and the screening of the hypnotic Cemetery of Splendour, among others.

Today the movie theaters of the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia drew a select mosaic of the most renowned faces from the international scene. Day 6 at this 48th Film Festival awoke with the screening of Last Days in the Desert (Noves Visions One), directed by Rodrigo García and starring Ewan McGregor, a magical, mysterious chronicle of the temptations of Christ. Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard’s formidable interpretative talent captured the attention of the spectators of Macbeth (Official Fantàstic In-Competition), by Justin Kurzel, a visceral adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s bloodiest tragedies. In addition, Kevin Bacon plays a psycho, authoritarian Sheriff in Cop Car (Official Fantàstic In-Competition), directed by Jon Watts, a thriller where Bacon relentlessly pursues a couple of kids who took his car for a joy ride. Afterwards, Sitges Day 6 welcomed the eagerly awaited Youth (Official Fantàstic Special Screenings), the new project by Paolo Sorrentino who, after delighting us with The Great Beauty, presents this nostalgic portrayal of maturity, starring two colossal actors on the international scene, Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel.

At the same time, today the Festival hosted the first Blood Red Carpet, an initiative to promote acting talent where a group of actors and actresses have been selected, characterized by their solid career and who are ideal candidates for projects of international importance. The jury awarded the 2015 Red Blood Carpet honor to three actors -Alejo Sauras, Álvaro Cervantes and Peter Vives- and three actresses -Laia Costa, Vicky Luengo and Godeliv Van den Brandt.

Another of the outstanding screenings in today’s lineup was Cemetery of Splendour, by Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, an atmospheric film where a group of soldiers are treated for a strange disease that produces constant sleepiness. Hypnotic, mysterious, and magical, Cemetery of Splendour was also part of the  ‘Un certain regard’ official selection at the Cannes Festival this year.

In addition, for the second year in a row, today the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia presented the Sitges Bacardí Indomitable Spirit Award to actress Adriana Ugarte. This is an award with which the Festival aims to promote the recognition of young talents who already excel and who deserve a special mention for their distinguishing and untamed character. Afterwards, Casa Bacardí Sitges is hosting an exclusive party to commemorate the award winner, attended by numerous famous faces in Spanish cinema and the film industry.

Today the Festival released the names of the films that will be screened at the Marathon scheduled for Saturday 17 in the Auditori, at 1:15: Attack on Titan. The Movies. Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow & Attack on Titan. The Movies. Part 2: Wings of Freedom and Ghost in the Shell Arise. The Movie. The Marathon runtime will be 6 hours and 10 minutes. The marathons programmed for Sunday18 are the following:

Prado Matinée Marathon: Cop Car + Turbo Kid + The Final Girls

Prado Marathon: Schneider vs. Bax + Tag + The Legend of Barney Thomson + Into the Forest + Deathgasm

In addition, the Festival has also announced that all users who buy a ticket for any of the 8 marathons scheduled for Sunday 18, will get free access to the exhibition +Humans. The future of our species, at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona. To access the CCCB exhibt, users simply need to show their marathon voucher, which can be either their actual ticket or receipt of purchase, if bought online.
