Sitges will be travelling to the Guadalajara Festival, in Mexico

The festival will be welcoming a special focus on Sitges and the commemorative exhibition of the 50th anniversary

Catalonia will be the guest of honor at the next Guadalajara International Film Festival in Mexico (FICG), which will take place que from the 9th to the 16th of March 2018. This festival is the most important film event in Latin America. On the occasion of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, the FICG will be welcoming a special focus as a part of the contemporary film sampler. In addition, it will be exhibiting the show Cinema is Fantastic, which could recently be seen at the Catalonian Film Library and the Sitges Festival.

The fact that Catalonia is the guest of honor at the film competition gives the Catalan film industry enormous visibility, as it allows the Catalan participants to be present in each and every one of the FICG’s section: from the sampler of contemporary Catalan film to the different official in competition and out of competition sections, and including presence in the juries and different programs in the industry section. The Catalan participation is promoted by the Catalonian Generalitat, the autonomous government, through Catalan Films & TV and the Ramon Llull Institute.

An outstanding part of the FICG’s lineup is the presentation of Contemporary Catalan film sampler with approximately thirty productions (fiction, documentaries and short films). In addition, Catalan directors, actors and producers will be present in other different sections of the festival and also on the juries, like filmmaker Carla Simón, who will be a judge for the award for best Latin American fiction feature length film.

The exhibition Cinema is Fantastic, organized along with the Catalan Film Library and curated by Diego López, a programmer for Sitges and in charge of the Brigadoon section, will allow genre lovers and Festival fans to revisit the film competition’s posters from throughout its entire history, recognize some of its most illustrious guests, review the most outstanding films from these fifty years of lineups and discover some of the unseen and unheard images and anecdotes.

Prior to the Catalan presence in Guadalajara, from October 27th to November 2nd, the Texas Movie Theaters in Barcelona will be the headquarters for this Festival and will be offering the screenings of some of the most outstanding films from its previous edition.
