The Fantastic 7 project and other meetings with the industry are the focus of the Sitges Festival’s agenda at La Croisette
The 72nd edition of the most important film showcase in the world is now underway. For ten days, the planet's very best cinema comes together at the seaside city of Cannes, where the Sitges Festival will play a major role over the next few days as the promoter of the Fantastic 7 project and other events with the industry.
The Sitges Festival, together with the Festival de Cannes’ Marché du Film and the founder of Blood Window, Bernardo Bergeret, have created Fantastic 7, a forum designed to foster talent within the genre industry and support their connection with potential business partners. Fantastic 7 will be holding its first edition on Sunday 19, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., at the Palais K, where the director J.A. Bayona will be the Godfather.
The initiative will be screening seven proposals presented by seven different festivals from around the planet, all sharing the fantasy genre as one of their distinguishing features through their lineup. In addition to the Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, the other festivals that are part of the initiative are: the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, the Cairo International Film Festival, the Guadalajara International Film Festival (Mexico), the International Film Festival and Awards - Macao, South by Southwest and the Toronto International Film Festival. The project presented by Sitges is the new production from the filmmaker Juanma Bajo Ulloa, Baby.
The fantastic film festivals will meet again on Sunday afternoon, at 6 p.m., at the Fantastic Fanatics Mixer, an event that brings together the key actors in the genre field. All directors, distributors, buyers and programmers from fantasy industry festivals are invited to this networking session at Plage des Palmes.
Sitges will also be present at the French film competition through its deputy director, Mike Hostench, who on Friday, May 17 at 3 p.m. will be moderating a round table dedicated to the American production company XYZ Films, responsible for genre films like The Raid, The Invitation or Mandy –all presented at the Festival- among many others.
On Monday, May 19, a new meeting of the Fantastic 7 partners will take place at the Catalan Films stand at 5:00 p.m., as the celebration of an initiative raising a glass to a long and fruitful future.
